Free beginner-friendly pattern - Hannah bookmark

ree

Named after my youngest who loves reading, this bookmark is a great place to start.

You'll begin with a few rows of straight stitch that will help you learn the needle placement and picking up the threads. The pattern will then take you through a couple of different zig-zag stitches.

I've included finishing instructions as well.

I suggest that you take the time to read the introductory pages as they will help explain how to read the stitch chart and cutting enough thread for your row.

The pattern can be stitched on 11 count or 14 count Aida fabric which is readily available.

The sample in the photo was stitched on Antique white 11 count Aida using a size 22 cross stitch/blunt needle. The thread is a lovely variegated stranded cotton - Madeira mouline 2408 blue lagoon.

Plain colours will look wonderful as well either in one colour, shades of one colour or several colours together.

Any stranded cotton thread or Perle threads will work.

I recommend:

  • For 11 count Aida use 6 strands of embroidery cotton, Perle no. 5 and a size 22 needle.

  • For 14 count Aida use 3 strands of embroidery cotton, Perle no. 8 and a size 24 needle.

Happy stitching,

Sarah
